Sonos after launching its Sonos Playbar four years ago has returned to bet on the audio accessories for televisions. That is why we have been invited to hear about the Sonos Playbase, the new sound bar of the American company that, of course, maintains wireless connectivity with the rest of the company’s devices.
The Sonos Playbase counts, as a main course, with the possibility to function independently as a musical source, outside of its use as a sound bar. In addition, we find ten speakers inside, including a subwoofer. We have been able to verify your results in first person and we tell you below what our first impressions were.

Sound bar and TV stand
The first thing that strikes us as soon as we come across the Sonos Playbase is that, unlike the Playbar, it can also be used as a TV stand. Despite this, has maintained a fairly measured dimensions (43 centimeters deep) and from Sonos ensure that, being made of materials very resistant as fiberglass, is able to support a weight of up to 35 kilos, i.e. Televisions between 32 and 65 inches.
Another thing that strikes us on sight is the aesthetic resemblance to the Sonos PLAY: 5, with a minimalist design that blends with the set. We have seen the model in white, and as we can see in the photos, it goes unnoticed without breaking the harmony, because something that sin sometimes sound bars is how big they can come to be and how They are in the mood for a room.

Following the line of design, another of the key points that favor its good aesthetic integration is, as is already characteristic in all Sonos products, the (almost) absence of wiring. We only find the power cable and an optical cable, which is the connection with the TV. In this sense, it has left us very good sensations, perhaps the black model may pass less unnoticed, but still we cannot put him caught. Let’s see how that makes the important thing: audio quality.
Also for listening to music
Since Sonos presumed to have incorporated ten speakers within this base 58 millimeters wide. Three of them are treble, six mediums and it seems that they have allowed themselves the luxury of also incorporating a subwoofer inside her. Noticeable? It shows, yes, a lot. It really seems to lie that there is a subwoofer tucked inside the base (for the size mainly), but especially when it is used in the cinema viewing is noted for good.
But as we said at the beginning, this base can also be used as an independent music source, connecting it to any music streaming service over the Internet. If this were your only function, maybe the price would be very high, because we found wireless speakers (including those of Sonos) that serve for these needs, but as an additional function, we will not put a fault.
Neither do we have a complaint about how the musical content is reproduced, because at least in the songs that we have reproduced as a sample, with very different musical textures (even within them), we have been able to receive the sound with an impeccable clarity, being able to differentiate in many The various instruments that made them.
Dialogues debugged
This is the strong point of the device and in which we have actually been able to realize the engineering work behind. We have seen in different clips how the subwoofer did its job, because the loud sounds (explosions, stamping) sounded with great power, but without distortion, and at the same time, the dialogues or the music that played simultaneously, were still perceived without problem.
And is that this is one of the big problems that we find in the original audio in televisions, that the dialogues, often, are overshadowed when more serious sounds stand before them. In this aspect the result that Sonos has achieved with the Playbase has surprised us pleasantly.
Price and availability
As we have seen, the new device of Sonos follows the height of others that happened before and consequently, also remains in the same price range, as the Playbase hits the market for 799 dollars, a luxury for some, but an excellent audio equipment for the most gourmet.
