Smartwatches may have slipped into the background after that 2015 boom, but manufacturers are still relying on this product as a complete alternative to quantitative bracelets. The last one has been Acer’s Leap Ware smartwatch, a watch that seeks to be that motivation for the physical exercise we sometimes look for with these devices.
The company has opted for the circular design for the sphere and, for this purpose of attending the quantification of physical activity, incorporates sensors to record the heart rate and other measurements of our state at various levels. Complementing the hardware, to encourage us to get up from the couch the Liquid Life app seeks to stimulate friendly competition among users.
Seeking fusion of elegance, endurance and sporty look
The field of wearables is not new to Acer and we have already seen their bets on quantitative bracelets with the Acer Liquid Leap. With Leap Ware they move to the smartwatch format by opting for a circular sphere and a rather simple design, leaving a little of the current wristwatch imitation we see in others like Huawei.
This makes sense seeing that the product is totally focused to satisfy the needs of a user who wants to quantify their sport sessions, with a 42 mm stainless steel case designed to withstand blows and splashes. Hence it has corning Gorilla Glass SR + and IPX7 water resistance rating.
What you get tired of and if you need some shade?
Of its guts still, to be revealed some details. We know that for chips Acer has trusted MediaTek and incorporates MediaTek’s MT2523 and MT2511 biological detection chips. Thanks to these and a number of algorithms, Leap Ware can record and display heart rate data, resistance and level of stress and fatigue, as well as exposure to ultraviolet rays.

It is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones (unlike wristbands, which included Windows Phone) and connect to them through the Liquid Life app, which allows you to set activity goals as well as notifications for them. And here comes that extra motivation we said at the beginning, as users can earn Power Coins as they exercise, adding a game component and a chance to get discounts and gifts on the Liquid Market with those coins.
As for the battery at the moment, we also do not know the milliamperes / hour, but from Acer estimate an autonomy of approximately three to five days depending on the use. As an extra, it incorporates a LED as a flashlight activated by the push of a button, with the idea that it can serve as an auxiliary lighting at night or low light output.
Acer Liquid Ware, price and availability
We will have to wait for something more to know this data, since at the moment the company has not yet communicated anything about it. What we do know is that with the agreement signed with the Taiwanese company Easycard there will be a special edition of Leap Ware for the Taipei University Games 2017, which will be in August this year.
Thus, the Acer device will be another alternative to quantify our careers on foot or by bicycle; in the absence of knowing the total of activities that can register (what they specify is that despite its water resistance is not recommended to submerge it). As for the straps, they are interchangeable and any 20 mm belt is compatible.
