We have been waiting for weeks to launch the new AMD processors in which the battle for gigahertz is definitely behind. In AMD Ryzen Threadripper the name could not be more appropriate, because the objective is to offer a brutal parallel thanks to those 16 cores of the highest model in the range just presented.
These new microprocessors re-activate the battle with Intel, which after presenting its new Intel Core i9 also struggles to conquer that ground in which it is the number of cores that counts and not so much the clock frequency.
As with Core i9, Threadripper is not gaming-oriented
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X integrate this new family with an essential difference. The first has 16 cores at 3.4 GHz (up to 4 GHz with Turbo mode) and 32 threads of execution. The second lowers the 12 cores to 3.5 GHz (4 GHz with Turbo) and 24 threads of execution.

Video presentation compares these processors AMD with Intel 7900X, which have the same price as the 1950X but they have 10 cores at 3.3 GHz (4.5 GHz in Turbo 3.0 mode) and does presuming performance: according its tests with Cinebench r15 the performance of its 16-core Threadripper was higher.
In both cases use is made of a socket of 4094 pins called TR4 and of the plates with chipset X399. Another outstanding feature of these micros is that they offer 64 PCIe 3.0 tracks against the 44 tracks of the Intel model, which, yes, outperforms performance per core. That makes in very parallel workloads AMD chips have an advantage, but if there are tools that demand a good mono-thread performance, let Intel win the game.
These models will be available in early August with prices of $ 999 for the top model of 16 cores and $ 799 for the model with 12 cores.
Like the Core i9 that came a few weeks ago, do not seem ideal processors for gaming, but if you combine that facet with scenarios that can take advantage of the high degree of parallelism offered by the Threadripper these microprocessors – such as Intel- can be a perfect choice for your workstations and desktop computers.
